Dear HV families,
It was exciting to see half of our students back at school for partial return on Tuesday and Thursday this week. School looks very different with physical distancing measures and new Health and Safety protocols in place. Students are learning new routines and are doing a wonderful job of adjusting to many changes. Thanks to all HV kids for their excellent work!
We were delighted to see our playground open yesterday! Hopefully, all children are able to take advantage of greater opportunities for outside play during this time.
Here are a few notes and reminders as we head into the weekend:
Please find attached below our “Student Placement Policy”, regarding class planning for next year. The document outlines our extensive process for this work and the details we consider in creating classes for next year.
-Our ESW site continues to operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during school hours for families who have had their applications approved through the School District. Thank you to our teachers, Educational Assistants and Support Staff who are working with the children of Essential Workers while parents are at work.
-Children who undertake in-school learning will continue to attend on Tuesday and Thursday. We ask that students arrive for the 8:25 bell and line up at their designated outdoor space. Please do not drop off children early at school.
-In June, we are considered a “closed campus” from Monday-Friday during school hours. Since children and staff are on-site each day (2 days of in –school instruction and 3 days of ESW program), our playgrounds and fields are not open to the public until after dismissal.
-Our school remains closed to parents and the public at this time. Should you require assistance, please wait outside the front door and staff will assist you.
-Children who attend school on site and exhibit any symptoms of ill health (coughing, sneezing, flu etc.) must be picked up by parents. We are working within very strict Health and Safety protocols at this time and appreciate your support with these measures.
-Unless requested by a teacher, students should be leaving toys and play equipment at home when they come to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-If you have had a change regarding your child’s learning schedule for June, please let Mrs. Sjerven know in advance so that we are able to make accommodations. We continue to have prescriptive Ministry guidelines around maintaining 50% population density in classrooms and in the school at one time. We are unable to accept children into classrooms without prior arrangements approved by administration.
-Students who attend at school on Tuesday and Thursday may not remain with their classroom teachers each day. We have redeployed teaching staff to accommodate students when class sizes exceed 50% on a given day. At this time, the library, multipurpose room and gym are being used as student spaces.
-Children who are engaged in remote learning will continue to have these opportunities on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
-Thank you for picking up your child’s school supplies. If you have not picked up these belongings, please contact the office to make arrangements.
-As always, please read weekly District emails for the most up-to-date information from Mr. Scott Stinson, Superintendent.
-Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the June HV PAC meeting via Zoom, on Tuesday, June 16th at 6:30 pm.
